Two New LEED AP staff at VDZ

Through the Fall and Winter, VDZ has been continuing to consult on projects pursuing LEED accreditation under Canadian Green Building Council.  Both Mark van der Zalm - principal, and Jaki Lowe -intern BCSLA have successfully completed study and examination to become LEED AP.  This designation confirms our committment to green and sustainable design and allows us to consult with knowledge and authority on development and public projects that seek this designation.

All of our projects include a sustainable review lense by our staff, however - we have noticed an increase in formal LEED process for new projects. Inparticular, our public building work including: recreation centres, visitors centres, border crossings, and aquatic centres.

VDZ is committed to sustainable design principals and in assisting our clients through regulatory, and program approvals.

Chuck Bailey Covered Youth Plaza awarded to VDZ

The city of Surrey has received a 1.5million dollar federal government incentive grant to complete a covered youth park for North Surrey. This park/plaza will be the first of its kind in the Lower Mainland and will feature an extensive covered area that compliments the iconographic architecture of the adjacent community centre building by CEI architects.

VDZ's design work will coincide with architectural design development by CEI architects, and New Line skateparks.  The design schematic has been approved and includes an extensive skate plaza, half court basketball, covered road hockey and mini-ramp area, skateable/rideable art plaza, water feature and other interesting features.  The design strategy includes sustainable materials and integrated stormwater management.
